Metabolic and Nutritional Aspects in Paediatric Patients with Klinefelter Syndrome: A Narrative Review

Abstract: Klinefelter syndrome is the most common sex chromosomal aneuploidy in males. It is well known that patients with this syndrome have greater mortality and morbidity compared to the general population due to cardiovascular diseases and endocrine metabolism disorders. This augmented risk is due both to hypogonadism and to the syndrome itself. Therefore, correct hormonal replacement therapy and early primary prevention are crucial to these patients. Even though different studies are available on this topic in adul… Show more

“…On the whole, the patients with psoriasis should to be recommended to lose weight and detect the comorbidities early. 43 In our study of metabolic pathway analyses, we found that the pathway of synthesis and degradation of ketone bodies was the most significant. The result was consistent with previous research that ketone bodies play an essential role in psoriasis.…”

“…Apart from blood metabolites, other possible targeted microbiotas are supposed to be studied further in psoriasis and metabolic syndrome via genomics and metabolomics. On the whole, the patients with psoriasis should to be recommended to lose weight and detect the comorbidities early 43 …”

“…Regarding potential confounding effects of diet in the present study, no significant differences regarding daily total energy or antioxidant vitamin intake were found between the intervention and control groups. Surprisingly, a previous study found that adult patients with PsO had a poor nutritional status, and were at risk of nutrient deficiencies compared to BMI-matched controls without PsO [5]. On reviewing the literature on this population group, it appears that future studies focusing on interventions based on the combination of a healthy anti-inflammatory personalized diet and exercise are urgently required [51].…”

“…Recent studies have emphasized that psoriasis is a systemic disease with multiple comorbidities that extend beyond the skin [2][3][4]. It has been associated with an increased risk for comorbidities, including but not limited to arthritic, psychological, and cardiometabolic conditions [2][3][4][5]. In a more detailed way, the overall pooled prevalence of metabolic syndrome in adult patients with PsO was 32% (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.26-0.38) [6].…”

“…Both PsO and AD are chronic inflammatory diseases with systemic manifestations other than skin pathology. Both diseases are related to obesity via the complex influence of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-17, TNF-α) and adipokines, leading to cardiometabolic disturbances [4,[22][23][24][25]. However, unlike clear evidence of increased prevalence of cardiometabolic diseases in patients with PsO, results concerning the link between AD and cardiometabolic risk are inconclusive [26].…”
