Metal Electrode Polarization in Triboelectric Nanogenerator Probed by Surface Charge Neutralization

Abstract: Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) uses charge transfer between two asymmetric charge affinity materials such as metal and dielectrics. Metal electrode acts as charge collector from dielectrics and acts as charge transfer path to an external load, which model deals with only a net charge of metal electrode concerning electrical output. In this work, we found that metal electrode in triboelectric generator has non-negligible surface charge polarization causing open-circuit voltage difference in the model TENG s… Show more

“…After exposure to an electric field for a time, a dielectric maintains a specific surface voltage even after removing the field. In our previous experiments, we verified the changes in output and stability depending on the specified electric field [ 24 ]. The CS-TENG works by a contact separation process using a solenoid (Shindengen, M080117SS).…”

“…Figure 2(a) shows the detailed working mechanism of the FR-TENG. Figure 2 2(a), i, the charges in the attached electrode can be polarized by the surface charge of the PTFE-based substrate [26]. Owing to the negative charges of the PTFE surface, the charges inside the electrode are polarized.…”

“…Meanwhile, Cu 2 WS 4 crystal grains are uniformly dispersed in PVDF, and the dielectric constant of Cu 2 WS 4 –PVDF composites is greatly increased under the application of an electric field due to the space charge polarization Figure (b) shows the process of contact initiation and electrostatic induction coupled power generation of Cu 2 WS 4 –PVDF/Ni foam TENG, including the four processes: contact, separation, contact, and separation. , When an external force is applied to make the Cu 2 WS 4 –PVDF/Ni positive triboelectric layer come in contact with the PTFE negative triboelectric layer, positive and negative friction charges are generated, respectively, on the surface of the two triboelectric layers, and a dual-layer capacitor is synchronously formed. The polarization of Cu 2 WS 4 –PVDF composites occurs in the separating and the separated and contact processes, and the thinning of the effective thickness and space charge polarization in Cu 2 WS 4 –PVDF/Ni foam triboelectric layer can effectively enhance the density of triboelectric charges and induced charges in electrodes and further improve the output performance of TENGs.…”
