Metal inserted spacer influence on particle motion in nonuniform electrical field under DC voltage

Abstract: In Gas Insulated Systems (GIs), particles near spacer in GIS tend to cause apparatus faults by leading flashover breakdown along spacer surface. Metal inserted spacer as a method is designed in purpose to prevent particles from lifting and adhering to spacer. The effect of electrode inserted is investigated by calculation of electrostatic force acting on spherical particles in 2-dimension model through Finite Element Method (FEM). Three type spacers with different shapes are studied and the results show that m… Show more

“…Gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) mainly utilizes SF 6 gas as its insulating medium. Partial discharge faults inevitably occur in long-term operation, causing the breakdown of SF 6 into various low-fluorine sulfides. , Under microwater and microoxygen conditions, the low-fluorine sulfides produce various corrosive decomposition products which corrode insulating components and cause the electrical or thermal breakdown of the insulating medium. , Partial discharge is difficult to detect in the operations, preventative high-voltage tests, and maintenance due to its strong concealment . Using a gas sensor to detect the decomposition components of SF 6 is a common method for realizing online monitoring of the partial discharge in GIS. , …”
