Metal [Zn(II), Cd(II)], 1,10-Phenanthroline Containing Coordination Polymers Constructed on the Skeleton of Polycarboxylates: Synthesis, Characterization, Microstructural, and CO2 Gas Adsorption Studies

Abstract: Four new coordination polymers have been obtained by the reaction of metal [Zn(II), Cd(II)], 1,10-phenanthroline separately with two carboxylic acids, [biphenyl-4,4′-dicarboxylic acid (4,4′-H 2 BDA),and 4,4′-azodibenzoic acid (4,4′-H 2 ADA)]. The crystal structures of the resulting complexes of type {[Zn(4,4′-BDA) (4) have been elucidated using their single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Their thermal stabilities have been investigated using thermogravimetric analysis. Complexes result in a 2D structure w… Show more

“…5d). The angles (α) of simplified L-M-L (M = Zn, Ni) in complexes 6-8 are 59.363(5)°, 61.576(5)°and 68.003 (8)°respectively. Due to strong π⋯π stacking interactions observed between the 2D layers of complexes 6-8, packing of the 2D layers generates three 3D supramolecular frameworks (Fig.…”

“…On the other hand, except for the strong and highly directional coordination bonds, the various weak noncovalent forces such as hydrogen bonding, π⋯π, C-H⋯π and cation⋯π interactions are also widely explored for the assemblies of CPs or MOFs. 7 Among them, the less directional π⋯π interactions are widely utilized to design superstructures with potential applications in separation, 8 gas storage, 9 optoelectronics, 10 luminescence properties. 11 In this regard, N-donor co-ligands: 2,2′-bipyridine or 1,10-phenanthroline, usually acting as terminal bidentate chelating, 12 are used to link 2D coordination layers into 3D supramolecular networks through the π⋯π stacking interactions between the pyridine and phenanthroline.…”

“…The first MOF (MOF-9) [11] based on 4,4′-azodibenzoate (4,4′-ADB) is reported by Yaghi et al They demonstrated that compounds constructed by azodibenzoate ligands possess the ability to support the existence of large free volume in interpenetrating structures. After that, more and more researchers put their attentions on synthesis porous MOFs by azo-based ligands, such as 3,5,4′-azobenzenetricarboxylic acid, [12] 2,2′-azodibenzoic acid, [9,13] 4,4′-azodibenzoic acid, [14,15] and 3,3′,5,5′azobenzenetetracarboxylic acid, [16][17][18][19][20][21][22] and investigate their properties, especially gas adsorption performance. To our best knowledge, the coordination chemistry of 3,3′-azodibenzoic acid (3,3′-H 2 ADB) has attracted little attention.…”
