Metamaterial Inspired Structure With Offset-Fed Microstrip Line for Multi Band Operations

Abstract: A miniaturized rectangle-shaped complementary split ring radiating element with an offsetfed microstrip line is reported for multiband operations. The fabricated antenna with a compact size of 19×19×1.6 mm 3 is designed on an FR-4 substrate with loss tangent tan δ = 0.02 and dielectric constant (ε r ) of 4.4. Multiband and antenna miniaturization are achieved by a complementary split ring radiating element, and it produces an impedance bandwidth of 40 MHz resonance at 3.03 GHz, 40 MHz resonance at 3.66 GHz, an… Show more

“…The antenna in [5] is designed using a pentagon patch with slots and hook branches, and thus it is more complex to design and larger in size than the proposed antenna. The antennas in [6][7][8][9][10][11] are designed using SRR or CSRR while antennas in [12][13][14] are designed using fractal techniques. All these antennas [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] not only are difficult to design but also have larger dimensions.…”

All these antennas [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] not only are difficult to design but also have larger dimensions. The proposed single branch antenna is designed by reducing the electromagnetic coupling between the higher-order modes by selectively cutting the symmetrical portion and reducing the thickness of the monopole.…”

“…The -negative metamaterial has applications in millimeter wave frequency for phase shifters, circular polarization, and the elimination of cross-polarization. Additionally, metamaterial absorbers have practical uses in energy harvesting, multiband polarization, and wide-band characteristics [2].…”
