Metamorphic Evolution of Garnet-bearing Epidote-Barroisite Schist from the Meratus Complex in South Kalimantan, Indonesia

Abstract: -This paper presents metamorphic evolution of metamorphic rocks from the Meratus Complex in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Eight varieties of metamorphic rocks samples from this location, which are garnet-bearing epidote-barroisite schist, epidote-barroisite schist, glaucophane-quartz schist, garnet-muscovite schist, actinolite-talc schist, epidote schist, muscovite schist, and serpentinite, were investigated in detail its petrological and mineralogical characteristics by using polarization microscope and electr… Show more

“…Moreover, the occurrence of barroisite inclusions in garnet porphyroblasts is typical of metamorphic terranes characterized by basaltic and pelitic protoliths that experienced HP/LT gradients (e.g. Clarke, Aitchison, & Cluzel, 1997;Forneris & Holloway, 2003;Ko, Enami, & Aoya, 2005;Kouketsu, Enami, & Mizukami, 2010;Li, Takasu, Liu, & Guo, 2010;Lü, Bucher, Zhang, & Du, 2012;Mposkos, Baziotis, & Proyer, 2012;Schulz, Triboulet, Audren, Pfeifer, & Gilg, 2001;Setiawan, Osanai, Nakano, Adachi, & Asy'ari, 2015;Zhang et al, 2013). The stability of barroisite preserved inside garnet therefore indicates that the Mammola Paragneiss Unit reached a maximum pressure of ~0.9 GPa (i.e.…”

“…However, these types of rock are recognized in other metamorphic complexes in South Sulawesi namely as Barru (garnet-biotite-muscovite schist; Setiawan et al, 2014) and Biru Complexes (epidote-garnet amphibolite; Jaya et al, 2017). In the Meratus Complex, this type of rock is represented by garnet-bearing epidote-barroisite schist (Setiawan et al, 2015).…”

“…The relevant research (Soesilo et al, 2015) identified the metamorphism type of metamorphic belt in the area between Java Sea and Mangkalihat Peninsula and also western part of Central Sulawesi. The research (Setiawan et al, 2015) revealed the metamorphic evolution through determining the facies and metamorphism type of meratus complex in South Kalimantan. The research (Chen et al, 2018) investigated the metamorphic rocks in Wuliangshan Mountains with the facies and metamorphism types.…”
