MFSPV: A Multi-Factor Secured and Lightweight Privacy-Preserving Authentication Scheme for VANETs

Abstract: Vehicles authentication, the integrity of messages exchanged, and privacy-preserving are essential features in vehicular ad hoc network (VANETs) security. Most of the previously proposed VANETs security solutions do not sufficiently satisfy the security and efficiency requirements. Besides, most of those solutions are heavily dependent on the system key and long-term sensitive data stored in an ideal tamperproof device, which may not be practical or ideal for resource-constrained onboard units (), especially i… Show more

“…Any such activity, however, will alter the behavior of the embedded PUF's and render it unusable. Furthermore, because the PUFs cannot be recreated, they are immune to cloning (Alfadhli et al, 2020), in contrast to (Hakeem et al, 2019) and the majority of the previous related works, which did not contemplate such an attack.…”

“…The author claimed that the proposed scheme could address impersonation attacks and user tracking. Alfadhli et al (2020) proposed a lightweight multifactor authentication that employs Physical Unclonable Functions (PUF) and one-time dynamic pseudo-identities as an authentication factor. PUF puts as a second authentication factor in the scheme.…”

“…Unfortunately, the system also suffers from primary session attacks, modification attacks, and high processing costs due to the bilinear pairing. Similarly, for VANETs that protect privacy, a lightweight multi-factor authentication and security solution was introduced ( Alfadhli et al, 2020a ). It operates as authentication variables, a mixture of physically unclonable (PUF) functions and one-time dynamic pseudo-identities.…”

“…Alfadhli et al [14] proposed a light weighted multi factor verification and privacy preserving security solution for VANET. Additionally, it removes the heavyweight dependency on the scheme key through decentralizing the broad area of CA to local areas and attains strong controller of the domain key.…”
