“…Based on the reported literature, the sulfates of Mg and Ca are not supposed to decompose at event (c) [41,42]. The last event with the lowest mass loss reported tends to be associated with talc decomposition [17,43] as well as MgSO4 transformation into MgO [41,44].…”

“…Thermogravimetric analyzes were carried out with only Pd/Al 2 O 3 catalyst as well as with the anhydrous magnesium sulfate with and without the presence of the catalyst. Souza et al 37 showed that the mass loss of the seven water molecules of the magnesium sulfate heptahydrate occurs between 100 °C and 350 °C. Therefore, the TGA results are presented above 400 °C for a better level of detail.…”

“…Over the years, under a different perspective, the thermal decomposition of magnesium sulfate has already been applied to aim the production of sulfur dioxide, for sulfuric acid manufacturing, and magnesium oxide, as a neutralizing agent, for pH control during other sulfates precipitation as well as for heat storage unit operations [29][30][31][32] . Moreover, the decomposition of this salt has been continuously studied throughout the last decades, under different reaction conditions, such as atmosphere composition and presence of a reducing agent 26,31,[33][34][35][36][37] ; to optimize the process in terms of the oxide particle size by lowering the decomposition temperature.…”
