Micellar Electrokinetic Capillary Electrophoresis for Rapid Analysis of Patulin in Apple Cider

Abstract: A micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MECC) mode was applied to a capillary electrophoresis (CE) method, which was developed for detection and quantitation of patulin in apple ciders. This method used a small sample amount (2 mL) and consumed minimal organic solvent compared to the most commonly used HPLC methods. The sample preparation procedure of the CE method was also simpler than other chromatographic techniques developed for patulin analysis. Patulin was detected with a photodiode array det… Show more

“…Indeed, micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) and capillary electrochromatography (CEC) methods have become powerful separation techniques for both neutral and charged compounds. Few studies on the use of capillary electrophoresis for the analysis of patulin have been conducted (Tsao and Zhou, 2000;MurilloArbizu et al, 2008). To date, there have been no reported attempts to compare the CE methodology with the HPLC one in the determination of this mycotoxin.…”

“…In fact, compounds or mixtures of neutral and charged compounds can be analyzed by micellar electrokinetic capillary electrophoresis or micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MECC). The method was described as having the advantage of requiring small amounts of sample and smaller amount of organic solvents when compared with HPLC (Tsao & Zhou, 2000).…”

“…Com o uso da cromatografia capilar micelar eletrocinética com detector de fotodiodo a 273nm, TSAO & ZHOU (2000) obtiveram recuperação de 98%, e o LD foi de 3,8µg L -1 . A CLAE-UV é um método comumente usado para determinação e quantificação de patulina, visto que essa toxina é relativamente polar e exibe amplo espectro de absorção (GÖKMEN & ACAR, 1999;YURDUM et al, 2001;GÖKMEN et al, 2005).…”
