Microbial Biosensors as Pesticide Detector: An Overview

Abstract: Farmers are highly dependent upon agrochemicals to boost crop production through soil fertilization and and insect pests, pathogens, parasites, and weeds management . However, contentious application of agrochemicals on the farm has aggravated residual accumulation and has become problematic for environmental safety besides causing disease to humans and other animals. Thus, the analysis of chemical residues from the environment is vital for policymakers and communities. Mostly, chemists were devoted to analyzi… Show more

“…Thus, conducting polymers for the immobilization of microorganisms are one of the promising directions in the development of analytical devices. The developed microbial biosensors are mainly used to determine the total toxicity of samples [ 124 , 125 , 126 , 127 ] and to analyze the BOD of various water bodies [ 128 , 129 ].…”

“…Pesticides encompass a category of chemical substances used for fighting a range of factors, including plant diseases, detrimental insects, and weeds, which have the potential to diminish agricultural yields . According to their chemical structure, pesticides are classified as insecticides, fungicides, fungustatics, herbicides, acaricides, bactericides, aphicides, rodenticides, nematicides, molluscicides, algicides, avenicides, repellents, and attractants.…”

“…Pesticides encompass a category of chemical substances used for fighting a range of factors, including plant diseases, detrimental insects, and weeds, which have the potential to diminish agricultural yields. 29 According to their chemical structure, pesticides are classified as insecticides, fungicides, fungustatics, herbicides, acaricides, bactericides, aphicides, rodenticides, nematicides, molluscicides, algicides, avenicides, repellents, and attractants. Atrazine, a chlortriazine herbicide, is the most widely used herbicide to control weeds in agriculture due to its stable s-triazine structure, its effectiveness against a broader range of weeds, its ability to decrease susceptibility to soil erosion, and its cost-effective approach to inhibit the growth of targeted weeds 30 by acting as an inhibitor of photosynthesis by specific binding to photosystem II.…”
