Microbial Degradation, Spectral analysis and Toxicological Assessment of Malachite Green Dye by Streptomyces exfoliatus

Abstract: Malachite green (MG) dye is a common environmental pollutant that threatens human health and the integrity of the Earth’s ecosystem. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential biodegradation of MG dye by actinomycetes species isolated from planted soil near an industrial water effluent in Cairo, Egypt. The Streptomyces isolate St 45 was selected according to its high efficiency for laccase production. It was identified as S. exfoliatus based on phenotype and 16S rRNA molecular analysis and was depo… Show more

“…Malachite green is reported to be involved in mutagenesis, carcinogenesis, chromosomal fractures, and respiratory issues [4]. The toxicity of the malachite green depends on different factors including increase in concentration, exposure time, and temperature [7]. In view of the eco‐toxic attributes of malachite green, there is a dire need to develop protocols for effective treatment of malachite green‐containing effluent.…”

“…Ten concentrations of twofold serially diluted MOL were prepared. The MTT (3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-Diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay was conducted in reference to 13 , where con uent monolayers of OEC were cultured for 24 h in a 96 well-microtiter plate. The cells were cultured in triplicates with varying doses of the tested MOL at 37°C for 72 h under a CO 2 environment.…”
