“…
The absorbance spectrum was examined in the range 300 to 550 µ. The spectrum obtained is similar to that obtained by Stiller (8) showing the same two inflections between 350 to 400 µ and 450 to 485 µ. This indicates that the compound formed between isopropyl alcohol and vanadium oxinate is of the same nature as tha'; of the other alcohols. When measured at 380 µ, the absorbances shown in Table I were obtained with the standard isopropyl alcohol solutions.Addition of Lithium Sulfate.

“…In this modified method, maximum color development is attained in 15 to 20 minutes without heating or exact timing. Heating in a water bath or boiling the solution to develop the chelate complex as suggested in some methods (8,9) produced variations in color for a given standard that were easily detectable by method IV (4) in the 1 to 5 gg. range and could not be reproduced.…”

“…Plasma samples were deep frozen and stored for up to two weeks before analysis. After thawing plasma salicylic acid levels were estimated by the method of Saltzman (1948) with an Aminco-Bowman spectrofluorimeter. A control blood sample was collected by venepuncture in all cases before administration of the aspirin.…”

“…It has previously been reported that copper can form coloured complexes with 2‐nitroso‐1‐naphthol , but also that such complexes can be decomposed by the addition of inorganic acid without interfering with the more strongly bound cobalt complex . When we developed the cobalt spot test, we discovered a change of colour when testing metallic copper.…”
