Micropropagation procedures for Leontochir ovallei

Abstract: Leontochir ovallei Phil., an endangered Chilean species in the Alstroemericeae, was micropropagated on Murashige & Skoog medium supplemented with 4 #M benzyladenine, 1 #M indolebutyric acid and 1 46 mg 1-1 glutamine. Over 88% of the shoots rooted in vitro when treated with 10 #M naphthaleneacetic acid and micropropagated plantlets were successfully transplanted into the greenhouse.Abbreviations: BA-benzyladenine, IBA -indolebutyric acid, 2iP-isopentenyladenine, NAA -naphthaleneacetic acid, MS -Murashige and Sk… Show more

“…Reports of in vitro plant regeneration from tissues of medicinal plants are available (Hiraoka and Oyanagi, 1988;Lu et al, 1995;Gururaj et al, 2004;Vidya et al, 2005;George et al, 1993;Budzianowsku et al, 2004 andJawahar et al, 2004). However, there is no report in Sphaeranthus amaranthoides.…”

“…The biological study of the Chilean geophytes is necessary both for their domestication and for their ex situ conservation. Although studies about flowering physiology have been conducted in Leucocoryne (Kim and Ohkawa, 1998;Kim et al, 1998a;Kroon, 1989;Ohkawa et al, 1998), and Zephyra Kim et al, 1996Kim et al, , 1998b, few studies have been conducted with either seed or vegetative multiplication of Chilean geophytes (Thompson and Newman, 1979;King and Bridgen, 1990;Bridgen, 1991;Lu et al, 1995;De la Cuadra et al, 2002).…”
