MicroRNA-214-5p Inhibits the Invasion and Migration of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells by Targeting Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome Like

Abstract: Background/Aims: This study aims to explore the effects of microRNA-214-5p (miR-214-5p) on the invasion and migration of Hepatocellular Carcinoma cells (HCC). Methods: Hepatocellular Carcinoma tissues and adjacent normal tissues from 44 hepatocellular carcinoma patients were prepared for this study. The HepG2 and BEL-7402 cells were transfected with miR-214-5p mimic and inhibitor. qRT-PCR was performed to detect the expressions of miR-214-5p. Transwell assays were used to detect the invasion and migration assa… Show more

“…It has been shown that miRNA alterations robustly contribute to the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), one of the most flagrantly aggressive and invasive human cancers 5 . Several tumor suppressor miRNAs were demonstrated to inhibit HCC progression, such as miR-337, miR-214-5p, miR-31, miR-223, miR-451a, and miR-199a-3p 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11. However, miRNAs are susceptible to environmental degradation in the human body, with the consequent loss of their biological activity.…”

“…Bioinformatics predicted that TDRG1 could bind to miR‐214‐5p. Besides, miR‐214‐5 has been found in placental tissue, and it can inhibit the proliferation and invasion of a variety of tumour cells . Nevertheless, the role of miR‐214‐5p in PE is still unclear, which requires further research.…”

“…Recent studies have shown the alterations in miRNAs expression during the progression of HCC, highlighting their potentials for the diagnostic and prognostic applications, and targeted therapy for this malignancy [13]. For instance, it has been found that miR-214-5p overexpression inhibited the migration and EMT by targeting Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome Like in HCC cells [14]. And miR-135a promoted the metastasis of HCC cells by inhibiting tumor suppressor forkhead box O1 (FOXO1) [15].…”
