MicroRNA Era: The Importance for Diagnosis and Prognosis of Adrenocortical Tumors

Abstract: MicroRNAs play an essential role in posttranscriptional regulation of gene expression. They are evolutionary conserved, small, noncoding, 19–22-nucleotide RNAs, whose abnormalities, such as up- or downregulated expression, have been associated with several neoplasms, including adrenocortical tumors. Expression levels of distinct microRNAs can distinguish benign from malignant adrenal tumors. This current review provides recent data on the miRNAs profile in benign and malignant adrenocortical tumors diagnosed i… Show more

“…MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a varied collection of non‐protein‐coding tiny (19‐22 nucleotides) RNAs with regulatory impacts on gene expression at post‐transcriptional level . By targeting or silencing target genes, miRNAs play a crucial role in controlling the progression of tumour cells.…”

“…MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding RNAs that play critical roles in regulating various cellular functions by transcriptional silencing (Bezerra and Latronico, 2014 ). For instance, Zhou et al ( 2017 ) proposed that miR-224 could target SMAD4 to promote colorectal cell propagation.…”
