MicroRNA profiling of rats with ochratoxin A nephrotoxicity

Abstract: BackgroundNephrotoxicity is the most prominent one among the various toxicities of ochratoxin A (OTA). MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that have an impact on a wide range of biological processes by regulating gene expression at post-transcriptional level or protein systhesis level. The objective of this study is to analyze miRNA profiling in the kidneys of rats gavaged with OTA.ResultsTo profile miRNAs in the kidneys of rats with OTA nephrotoxicity, high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics ap… Show more

“…After the administration of OTA, body mass of the high-dose rats reduced about 7% (p , 0.05) at 9 and 10 weeks 13 , but gradually recovered thereafter. The liver weights were comparable between OTA-treated and control rats at 2, 4 and 13 weeks (Fig.…”

“…Exposure to OTA through food consumption poses a health risk, since this mycotoxin has been related to nephrotoxicity (DAI et al, 2014). The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified OTA as possible carcinogen to humans (IARC, 1993).…”
