Microscale Modeling and Simulation of Magnetorheological Elastomers

Abstract: Herein, a finite strain microscale model for magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) based on a general continuum formulation of the magneto-mechanical boundary value problem is introduced. The modelling approach enables to consider particles with magnetically soft or magnetically hard behavior. In order to connect the microscopic fields to effective macroscopic quantities, a suitable computational homogenization scheme is used. The microstructure of the considered MRE is discretized and the problem is solved num… Show more

“…The presented approach is based on a general continuum formulation of the coupled magneto-mechanical boundary value problem [1,2,5] which is valid on the micro-as well as the macroscale. To link these two scales, a suitable homogenization scheme is applied [4,5].…”

“…In addition, as a basic issue, the study of the interaction between two magnetic particles still keeps developing [80][81][82]. Moreover, besides the microstructure-based analytical model of MREs, the phenomenological continuous medium-based models were also studied [83][84][85][86][87][88][89][90][91][92][93]. These works focus on theoretically and/or experimentally studying the magneto-viscoelastic models for MREs.…”
