Microsimulation of Land Use

Abstract: The project ILUMASS (Integrated Land-Use Modelling and Transportation System Simulation) aims at embedding a microscopic dynamic simulation model of urban traffic flows into a comprehensive model system incorporating changes of land use, the resulting changes in transport demand, and the impacts of transport on the environment. The land-use component of ILUMASS will be based on the land-use parts of an existing urban simulation model, but is to be microscopic like the transport parts of ILUMASS. Microsimulatio… Show more

“…VISUM), gravity functions based on gravity accessibility between origin and destination (e.g. Torrens and Alberti, 2000;Geurs and van Wee, 2004), and comparatively sophisticated integrated land-use-transportation models such as ILUTM, IRPUD (Moeckel et al, 2003), IMREL (Anderstig and Mattsson, 1999) or MUSSA (Martínez and Donoso, 1995). The decision regarding which of these assessment schemes should finally be applied depends on a range of factors such as data availability, acceptance by local decision makers and suitability for the respective area.…”

“…Typically, these components include an activity sub-system that determines a city's land-use configuration, transportation sub-system and the interactions between these components (Black 1981;De la Barra 1989;Kanaroglou and Scott 2002). A comprehensive list of urban sub-systems and their interactions can be found in Moeckel et al (2003). “…With growing affluence and improved transport systems (Moeckel et al 2002), there has been rapid urban growth in the outer suburbs of Brisbane and around peri‐urban areas to take the advantage of a better quality of housing coupled with a relatively lower land value. This has been evidenced in the urban sprawl towards the greenfields.…”
