“…For these two alloys, significant differences in physical properties, such as melting point and heat conductivity, make conventional preparation techniques unsuitable for fabricating Ti/Al joints. Novel methods, such as accumulative roll-bonding [3−5], laser welding-brazing [6−7], friction stir welding [8−9], powder metallurgy [10−11], and explosive cladding [12], were attempted. “…r-Al 2 Ti crystallizes into a structure of the tetragonal HfGa 2 type containing 24 atoms per unit cell, and it is a very brittle compound due to the complexity of its crystal structure. The r-Al 2 Ti phase may have the right proportions of Al to Ti that it combines the good oxidation resistance and low density of an Al-rich Ti-Al alloy with the good mechanical and creep properties of Ti-rich Ti-Al alloys [1][2]18]. To the best of our knowledge, no attempt has been made to investigate the in-situ formation of an Al 2 Ti-Al 2 O 3 composite using an Al-TiO 2 thermite system.…”
