Microwave-Assisted Carbohydrohalogenation of First-Row Transition-MetalOxides (M: V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu) with the Formation of Element Halides.-Anhydrous transition metal chlorides and bromides MyXz (M: V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu; X: Cl, Br) are synthesized in quantitative yields in a one-step reaction of the metal oxides, graphite, and flowing HX under microwave irradiation (quartz-tubes, 1000-1400°C, 15 min). The resulting products contain the metal atoms in the lower oxidation states, i.e. V 3+ , Cr 3+ , Mn 2+ , Fe 2+ , Co 2+ , Ni + , and Cu + . Compared to conventional methods, the microwave-assisted synthesis provides shorter reaction times, simple product isolation, and higher yields. -(BERGER, M.; NEUMEYER, F.; AUNER*, N.; Inorg.
