“…As described in the SI (Section S2), the FTIR spectra of the four activated samples showed that the activation procedure led to clean CeO 2 surfaces with isolated hydroxyl groups hereafter discussed for CH 3 OH and CO 2 adsorption. However, a few important insights into the catalyst’s electronic and textural properties were obtained: (I) the presence/absence of the ν 3 (CO 2 ) as band in MW(100) and MW(650), respectively, associated the SSA and cumulative pore volume increase after calcination (Table S1) to the opening of closed pores containing trapped CO 2 ; (II) the Ce 3+ 2 F 5/2 → 2 F 7/2 electronic transition band was observed at 2127 cm –1 in MW(100) and MW(100)-red (Figure c), indicating the presence of Ce 3+ in the two samples, being more abundant in the latter than in the former; and (III) a drastic decrease of IR transmitted light after MW(100) reduction, suggesting the formation of V O (Figure S4a), also confirmed by the observation of the Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ charge transfer at 500–800 nm (CT) in the UV–vis spectrum (Figure S4b). , …”

“…Since the porosity of gel changes with pH, it significantly impacts the surface characteristics of the produced material. As it is customary for creating nanostructures, metal alkoxides are used as precursors in an organic solvent [67] . The chelate, which can stabilize metal cations, is occasionally used in place of alkoxides as a precursor.…”

“…When a driving force is exerted across a membrane, substances are separated by the thin layer of semipermeable material that comprises the membrane. Depending on their chemical and physical characteristics, membranes act as a barrier, preventing some components from passing through [ 45 , 67 ]. Membrane filtration stands out as the most dependable conventional water treatment method because it is quick, easy to scale up, highly effective, and flexible enough to work with other cutting-edge treatment methods.…”

“…Cubic ZrO 2 has been obtained by combustion promoted by MW heating [22]. ZrO 2 NPs, generally possessing a tetragonal phase, have been obtained by MW-hydrothermal treatment using different precursors [23][24][25][26] and by sol-gel synthesis assisted by MW irradiation. For example, Fetter et al [27] reported the synthesis of ZrO 2 and Cu/ZrO 2 starting from zirconium butoxide and operating at different pH values.…”
