Microwave Photonic Notch Filter With Complex Coefficient Based on DDMZM

Abstract: We report a continuously tunable microwave photonic notch filter with complex coefficient based on dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (DDMZM). The complex coefficient is realized by incorporating two complimentary wideband microwave photonic phase shifters in the system. The frequency response of the microwave photonic notch filter is continuously tunable over a full free-spectral range (FSR) without changing its shape and FSR by simply adjusting the bias of the DDMZM. The proposed approach is theoretically ana… Show more

“…In addition, full FSR-range tunability is hard to implement because of the difficulties to perform the full 360°phase shift. To remedy this, a full FSR range tunable microwave photonic filter with complex coefficients was proposed by using a PolM [282], [283], a dual-parallel MZM (DPMZM) [284], or a dual-drive MZM (DDMZM) [285]. As an example, Fig.…”

“…The remaining term of the incoherent filter will always have positive coefficient which will limit the performance of the filter [2]. Additional manipulation such as dual modulation would then be required to realize complex coefficient MPF based on the incoherent scheme [2,27]. To investigate the coherence of different types of light source, here we discuss the degree of coherence of the signals from (a) single mode lasers, (b) MLM lasers, and (c) filtered white noise source.…”

“…However, due to the large delay introduced by dispersive devices, the free spectral range (FSR) range is very small. Therefore, most of these filters [5][6][7] exhibit multiple passbands, or notches, in their operation bandwidth, which is disadvantageous for single band selection. In order to achieve single band selectivity, some single-bandpass or single-notch MPFs based on various optical components are proposed.…”
