Derivatives. -The isoquinolines are synthesized by a direct one-pot process under thermal and microwave conditions. The novel synthesis of the condensed furoisoquinolinediones (V) and pyranoisoquinolinediones (IX) involves chlorides as building blocks and is performed by microwave irradiation. Varying the reaction condition of (V) with Vilsmeier-Haack reagent under microwave irradiation provides the α,β-unsaturated carboxaldehydes (VII). Combined with simple work-up procedures and superior yields, this method is suitable for the generation of diverse libraries. -(HAVALDAR*, F. H.; MULE, G. B.; DABHOLKAR, B. V.; J. Heterocycl.
