Migration of Crosslinking Reagents in Cotton Fabric During Resin-Finishing Treatments

Abstract: Migration and distribution of crosslinking reagents during controlled drying of cotton fabric crosslinked with dimethyloldihydroxyethylene urea (DMDHEU) and dimethytotatkyl triazone (TAE) has been reported. Effects of different temperatures (60, 70, and 80°C) and times (0 60 min) on rate of drying and migration of DMDHEU reagent have been investigated. Migration and distribution of reagent and drying of crosslinked fabric treated with triazone were studied at 80°C only. Rate of drying for fabrics treat… Show more

“…The drying rate is known to strongly affect reagent distribution in resin finishing of cellulosic substrates [1,3,4,7,15,16]. The reagent, being nonsubstantive to the substrate, migrates with the liquor toward the evaporation front, and depending on the rate of drying and amount of moisture in the substrate, "back migration" or "negative migration" may occur, where the reagent migrates from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration in the substrate.…”
