Mineral Resources Management on the basis of the United Nations FrameworClassificaion (National Classification of Mineral Reserves and Resources of Ukraine)

Abstract: Characteristic of United Nations Framework Classification for fossil energy and mineral reserves and resources (UNFC-2009) as an universal system of mineral reserves/resources deposits evaluation in market conditions, is given. The UNFC-2009 ensures reporting on reserves / resources evaluation for all types of raw ma-terials, takes into account the influence of ecological and social factors and allows to maintain national termi-nology while ensuring its consistency with the international standards. The compari… Show more

“…The current mining equipment and methods of underground mining cannot solve the problem of efficient mining of coal seams which thickness is less than 0.7 m; that results in significant coal losses in the interior of the earth. Thus, total balance reserves are 41.9 bln tons, and outbalance reserves are 17.3 bln tons [7]. The balance reserves, remained within mine fields of the closed mining enterprises, are more than 1.0 bln tons; they can hardly be extracted in full with the help of the current methods.…”

“…Ukraine has significant deposits of lithium, which are estimated at 500.000 tons (up to 10% of world reserves) [16] Such volumes of this critical raw material, in the future, allow creating a profitable branch of industry with income to the budgets of all levels. However, the process of lithium beneficiation raw materials [17] into marketable products is quite expensive, so Ukrainian private enterprises aim only to sell ore [18]. In this regard, Ukraine should adopt the experience of EU countries, which are trying to process raw materials to obtain products with added value [19].…”

“…In turn, the main source of germanium in Ukraine is the coal of Donbas and the Lviv-Volynsky Basin, with estimated reserves of 41,000 to 91,000 tons. [7,13], as well as Precambrian iron ores and ores of polymetallic and gold-polymetallic deposits, where it is found as a concomitant component [14]. Thus, the purpose of the research is to determine the distribution of germanium in the main mineral deposits in order to establish the resource potential of Ukraine.…”
