Minimum Viable User EXperience: A Framework for Supporting Product Design in Startups

Abstract: Abstract. Startups operate with small resources in time pressure. Thus, building minimal product versions to test and validate ideas has emerged as a way to avoid wasteful creation of complicated products which may be proven unsuccessful in the markets. Often, design of these early product versions needs to be done fast and with little advance information from end-users. In this paper we introduce the Minimum Viable User eXperience (MVUX) that aims at providing users a good enough user experience already in th… Show more

“…Structuring the needsfinding process in this way makes it easier to respond to the needs of the users in later phases and contributes to a successful living lab. This approach is in line with the lean startup methodology, which suggests that, by validating hypotheses of customer's problems, startups find a solution that indicates there is business potential in solving the problem (Hokkanen et al, 2016). In this living lab, customer's needs and wants are also incorporated before the project/product has its final form.…”

“…For instance, Hokkanen [15] studied interweaving user experience design with the development of a MVP. Hokkanen, Kuusinen and Väänänen [16] presented a framework for start-up companies for design Minimum Viable User Experience (MVUX). In addition, Münch et al [30] studied the creation of MVPs in industry-academia collaboration and Bosch et al [8] as well as Björk et al [1] have discussed on the usage of MVP as a part of software development model in early-stage start-ups.…”
