Mitochondrial genomes of Sternochetus species (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) and the phylogenetic implications

Abstract: The three weevil species, Sternochetus gravis, S. mangiferae, and S. olivieri, have all been reported to be serious pests of mango fruits. Morphology, biology, and various management approaches of these economically important weevils have been well studied. However, no mitochondrial genomes have been reported from the genus Sternochetus. Herein, we assembled mitogenomes of all the three Sternochetus species to reveal their mitogenomic characteristics. A DNA library of 350 bp insert size was constructed and seq… Show more

“…The collinearity of MbMNPV-CHN1 and the other 12 Mb-McNPV group isolates was analysed using Mauve2.4.0 in the JAVA environment [37]. Geneious Prime 2021 [38] was used to calculate the number of single nucleotide variants (SNVs) between each isolate, and the numbers were converted to log values before creating a heatmap. Using MbMNPV-CHN1 as a reference, the homologous protein sequences were compared by ncbi-blast-2.11.0 (https://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/blast/executables/blast+/LATEST/) to obtain the identity values, and the rank sum values were tested using the wilcox.test function in R language [39].…”

“…In addition, animal mitogenomes usually contain a large non-coding region, known as the control region (CR) or AT-rich region in arthropods, which contains essential regulatory elements for transcription and replication ( Boore, 1999 ; Zardoya and Suadrez, 2008 ). Mitogenomes have been used in population genetics, phylogeography, and phylogenetic studies of various taxa, e.g., insects ( Yuan et al, 2015 ; Liu et al, 2022a ; Zhang et al, 2022 ), spiders ( Tyagi et al, 2020 ; Li et al, 2021 ; Li et al, 2022 ), and centipedes ( Hu et al, 2020 ; Ding et al, 2022 ). To date, only nine sequenced mitogenomes of nine Lycaenidae species have been stored in GenBank, which is extremely limited given the species richness, restricting our understanding of the phylogeny and evolution of the family.…”
