Mixing of active and sterile neutrinos

Abstract: We investigate mixing of neutrinos in the νMSM (neutrino Minimal Standard Model), which is the MSM extended by three right-handed neutrinos. Especially, we study elements of the mixing matrix Θ αI between three left-handed neutrinos ν α (α = e, µ, τ ) and two sterile neutrinos N I (I = 2, 3) which are responsible to the seesaw mechanism generating the suppressed masses of active neutrinos as well as the generation of the baryon asymmetry of the universe (BAU). It is shown that Θ eI can be suppressed by many or… Show more

“…To avoid tension with the observed abundances of light elements in the intergalactic medium, they should be sufficiently short lived that their decay does not disturb the primordial nucleosynthesis [18]. Together with experimental constraints [19,20] this imposes a lower bound of roughly M i > 100 MeV on those N i that participate in neutrino mass generation. 1 The NA62 experiment [28] can probe precisely this mass range.…”

“…Other works have also considered a low-scale warped hidden sector [50][51][52] and for another use of bulk sterile neutrinos see [53]. Light sterile-neutrinos have been studied extensively within the context of the νMSM [54][55][56][57] and for a discussion of the low-scale (GeV) seesaw see [58]. Ref.…”
