Mobile‐based collaborative learning in the fitness center: A case study on the development of English listening comprehension with a context‐aware application

Abstract: Mobile applications on the go have been adopted in many fields and areas. However, there has been little research regarding the development and use of a context‐aware application for users to improve their English listening comprehension through collaboration. This research aimed at helping users improve their listening comprehension with a combination of context‐aware tools and video‐based materials and attempted to investigate the learning strategies used in groups. Therefore, the researchers designed a Ubiq… Show more

“…This paper investigated the main factors and interactions that influence how students develop and perform an academic oral presentation in a BLLE from an ecological approach, and how presentation language and skills improved. Language students are increasingly aware of the best online material and software for learning (Trinder, ), suggesting that there are many research opportunities for researchers and instructional designers (Liu, Chen, & Hwang, ; Wang, Lin, Hwang, & Liu, ). Furthermore, this learning phenomenon gives students more autonomy and allows the instructor to work alongside students to construct knowledge.…”

“…Furthermore, the listening practice led to better speaking abilities for the experimental group. Another example is the study using mobile‐based collaborative listening activities at a fitness centre with context‐aware ubiquitous technology (e.g., scanning workout machines with QR codes) by Liu et al (). The experiment led to the significant improvement in listening skills, including the use of direct (memory, cognitive, and compensation) and indirect (metacognitive, affective, and social) strategies.…”
