The focus of this paper lies on the sensitivity of the nap-core sandwich-a novel kind of structural composite-to changes of its parameters. First, the fabrication, properties, and applications of the nap-core sandwich are briefly presented. This is followed by consideration of the sandwich composite's mechanical behavior. Finite element based simulation is applied to perform the parametric investigations. The height of the nap-core and the thickness of its knitted fabric as well as the face sheet of the sandwich are changed in order to investigate the dependence of the general mechanical properties of sandwich composites on those parameters. Experiments are used to validate the simulation results. The conducted investigation provides valuable information for the design of nap-core sandwich composites.

The noise transmission of aeronautical panels is an important phase of the design process of an airplane. In this work an analytical Navier-type solution, based on higher-order layer-wise shell models, is proposed for the analysis of the sound insulation of laminated panels. The considered multilayered structures are laminated with cross-ply composite layers embedded with interlaminar viscoelastic sheets. The use of the soft interlayers permits to have a passive insulation effect in the study of the sound transmission. In order to take into account the frequency depedent properties of a realistic viscoelastic layer, the damping behavior is modeled through a fractional derivative Zener model. The Rayleigh integral method is used to extrapolate the acoustic indicators for the sound transmission analysis. Some results are presented to validate the efficiency of the present approach, comparing the present solutions with others taken from the literature.

Recently, basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) is acknowledged as an outstanding material for the strengthening of existing concrete structure, especially it was being used in marine vehicles, aerospace, automotive and nuclear engineering. Most of the structures were subjected to severe dynamic loading during their service life that may induce vibration of the structures. However, free vibration studied on the basalt laminates composite plates with elliptical cut-out and correlation of natural frequency with buckling load has been very limited. Therefore, effects of the elliptical hole on the natural frequency of basalt/epoxy composite plates was performed in this study. Effects of stacking sequence (θ), elliptical hole inclination (ϕ), hole geometric ratio (a/b) and position of the elliptical hole were considered. The numerical modeling of free vibration analysis was based on the mechanical properties of BFRP obtained from the experiment. The natural frequencies as well as mode shapes of basalt laminates composite plates were numerically determined using the commercial program software (ABAQUS). Then, the determination of correlation of natural frequencies with buckling load was carried out. Results showed that elliptical hole inclination and fiber orientation angle induced the inverse proportion between natural frequency and buckling load.
