Modeling and Analysis of Integrated Bathymetric and Geodetic Data for Inventory Surveys of Mining Water Reservoirs

Abstract: The significant part of the hydrography is bathymetry, which is the empirical part of it. Bathymetry is the study of underwater depth of waterways and reservoirs, and graphic presentation of measured data in form of bathymetric maps, cross-sections and three-dimensional bottom models. The bathymetric measurements are based on using Global Positioning System and devices for hydrographic measurements – an echo sounder and a side sonar scanner. In this research authors focused on introducing the case of obtaining… Show more

“…When they are extracting, it is likely that a reservoir, filled up with surface water, is being formed. The integration of geodetic and bathymetric technologies enabled to conduct effective and accurate measurements of the bottom of reservoirs, what can be helpful in management of aquatic environment after the mining works are completed (Madusiok and Maciaszek, 2014;Ochałek et al, 2018). For this purpose, a remote controlled device, based on the USV methodology (unmanned surface vehicle), was designed by the author, and named as Smart-Sonar-Boat.…”

“…Over the past several years, remote sensing and Geographic Information System have rapidly developed, including the integration of geodesy with bathymetry (Owerko & Kwartnik-Pruc, 2011;Madusiok & Maciaszek, 2014;Ochałek et al, 2018). Nowadays, hydrological data collections, such as bottom characterization (Ivakin, 2006;Rzhanov et al, 2012;Haniotis et al, 2015;Awasthi, 2016), can be obtained by means of remote-controlled acoustic methods (Hitz et al, 2012;Romano & Duranti, 2012;Madusiok, 2016).…”

“…Therefore, no actual bathymetric data that could determine the spread of the tombolo phenomenon were available in this area. Currently, bathymetric measurements in ultra-shallow waters and on the coastline are carried out by either tachymetric [39] or geodetic method with a person stepping into the sea to a predefined depth using a GNSS receiver operating in real time [40][41][42].…”
