The purpose of the work is to characterize the importance of the functional preparedness of a person and its components in the implementation of sports activities. The methodological basis is the conceptual ideas of the theory of knowledge, the methodological principles of scientificity, accessibility, integrity, and integrability, which explain the important pedagogical aspects of the professional training of a future specialist in physical education and sports. Research methods. To obtain the most significant research results and their interpretation, the following methods were used: theoretical analysis and synthesis, systematization, generalization of information presented in scientific sources of information. The scientific novelty of the obtained results lies in the fact that a theoretical analysis of the concepts of "functional specialization" has been carried out "functional capabilities", "functional readiness", "functional training" and their importance in the implementation of sports activities. Practical significance of the obtained results: theoretical results and scientific provisions can be used to solve scientific, theoretical-methodical and practical tasks in pedagogical, sports-pedagogical activities in the conditions of higher, postgraduate, specialized extracurricular sports education during educational, educational and educational and training processes. Conclusions. To improve functional capabilities, it is advisable to use not only traditional means of physical, technical, tactical and psychological training, but also modern technologies and means of targeted influence on individual functional systems that determine and limit sports performance. The above should be combined with basic physical exercises and used as additional means that contribute to expanding the range of adaptation and increasing the physiological reserves of the human body.
