Modeling of Operating Speeds as a Function of Longitudinal Gradient in Local Conditions on Two-Lane Roads

Abstract: The operating speed is the average value of the speed of traffic flow under normal conditions, i.e., the conditions of mutual interference of traffic participants. The operating speed serves as a gauge for how well a given roadway is performing under the applicable traffic conditions. All key decisions in the management of the growth and utilization of a road network, including planning, designing, evaluating, and implementing road projects, depend on accurate measures of capacity and level of service. “…In order to adequately use road infrastructure and enable the efficiency of road capacity [51], it is necessary to pay attention to construction materials and the quality of construction machinery. It is one of these segments that is the subject of the research and selection of adequate mechanization for infrastructure construction for roads with an asphalt width of up to five meters, which represents a lower category of roads.…”

“…Accurate and efficient lane detection plays a crucial role in optimizing traffic decisions ( Subotić et al, 2022 ), and its synergistic interaction with road marking recognition provides essential support for intelligent driving ( Jayapal, Muvva & Desanamukula, 2023 ). At present, lane detection methods can be classified into two classes including traditional computer vision approaches ( Berriel et al, 2017 ; Assidiq et al, 2008 ) and deep learning methods ( Hou et al, 2019 ; Philion, 2019 ).…”

“…Over the past few decades, with the rapid development of autonomous driving algorithms, research has expanded from the ability to safely reach a designated destination to incorporating constraints such as comfort into motion planning (Li et al, 2022). In the application of autonomous driving technology, velocity planning played a vital role, with significant implications for efficiency, safety, comfort, and various other factors (Subotić et al, 2022). Concerning safety, velocity planning is essential, whether for changing lanes to overtake, braking to follow, or stopping to avoid obstacles.…”
