Modelling Ship Density Using a Molecular Dynamics Approach

Abstract: Ship density is widely accepted as a basic and major indicator to reflect the marine traffic situation, but it has some limitations in representing the compactness and complexity of ship traffic. To overcoming these limitations, the paper proposes a novel ship density model based on the radial distribution function in molecular dynamics. The proposed model can identify the density and compactness of traffic around each ship and then map the ship density from a microscopic perspective. In addition, the proposed… Show more

“…In connection with the development of new information technologies and the concept of e-navigation, there has been an evolution of traditional models of navigation tasks in the direction of describing the collective movement of vessels in the water area as a whole. We can note the work [4]. In this work, the number of dangerous approaches of vessels of various classes in certain areas of the water area is estimated on the basis of the classical model of the ship's domain and the most difficult areas for movement are identified.…”

“…Studies [5], [6], [7] are devoted to the same problem. The paper [4] proposes an approach for assessing the traffic intensity in the water areas as a function of the density of ships. The study [5] proposes a method for estimating traffic intensity that takes into account the geometric dimensions of the vessels.…”

“…The main problem in the practical implementation of the considered model is the need to estimate the angular velocities included in rule (2). this estimate is unstable under conditions of instrumental measurement errors at large distances between ships [8].…”

“…The alarm signal serves as an indication to the VTS operator, based on which he decides about the need to change the course and speed of movement. The number of objects for which an alarm signal can be generated at the current time increases with increasing traffic intensity [2]. This leads to the expansion of a variety of management solutions that can ensure safe traffic.…”

“…Этой же задаче посвящены исследования [8; 9; 10]. В работе [21] предложен подход для оценки интенсивности движения на акваториях как функции плотности судов. В исследовании [27] предлагается метод оценки насыщенности трафика, учитывающий геометрические размеры судов.…”
