The results of the survey demonstrated a shift from the traditional, isolated location of the reference desk to the integration of this service with other functions similar to the Information Commons model used in US libraries.…”

“…They provide many advantages for users in satisfying their needs and demands. According to related studies, many libraries have incorporated technologies to develop and improve their reference services to respond to user needs in the digital era by incorporating technology concepts in their services (Burke, 2008; Cassell and Hiremath, 2011; Prongmaneekul, 2014). Thus, in order to improve the effectiveness of reference services, it is important for libraries to add new value to reference services or enhance the quality of the available reference services without influencing the relevance of their services.…”

“…The value of reference services and the contribution of reference librarians began to be reassessed and academic libraries witnessed the implementation of reference by appointment and the limiting of reference services to primary users" 15 The restructure of information services at the University Library represented a more radical departure from traditional academic library structures, amounting to the adoption of a business model 16 The new structure was designed to provide flexibility to adapt to changes in the academic and broader information environments. It allowed for dedicated teams which would be responsible for different aspects of the work of academic librarians, rather than expecting them to be generalists, and to initiate and develop new services as extra projects.…”
