Modified Field stain - rapid viability test for Trichomonas vaginalis

Abstract: Aims: We previously reported that Modified Field Stain (MF) can be used as a rapid stain for diagnosis. In the present study we extend the observation to include the stain as an alternative method to assess viability of the cells. Methods and Results: Six isolates of Trichomonas vaginalis were used to assess the utility of the Modified Field stain as a rapid viability test for T. vaginalis and to compare with 0AE4% Trypan Blue dye exclusion test in three conditions; normal in vitro culture growth using Holland… Show more

“…Nevertheless, there are numerous data on the identification of Pentatrichomonas hominis and Trichomonas tenax in various human organs and systems. As for lamblia, the detection of Giardia lamblia in the genitourinary system of STI patients is about 6 % [10,11,12]. In the last decade, in the foreign scientific literature, there have been reports of the genitourinary system lesion by Gіardia lamblia, in particular, in homosexual men [13,14,15].…”

“…Vacuoles are more clearly visible in parasites stained with MF than when stained with Giemsa. Modified Field's Stain (MF) staining does not only record the morphological changes and retain internal structural details but also provides a reliable and rapid viability assay for the parasite [13] .…”
