Moisture Control Capacity of Geopolymer Composites: Correlation of the Bulk Composition–Pore Network with the Absorption–Desorption Behavior

Abstract: Porous composites with the principal class of porosity in the range of those presented in the literature as ideal for the moisture control capacity of building environment are described. In the course of the design of the matrices, micrometric pores are introduced to give to the pore systems a bi-or multimodal characters with the aim of improving the phases percolation during the course of desorption and make the moisture accumulation-desorption behavior of the porous composites essentially function of weather… Show more

“…As observed in a scientific review [31], the highly hygroscopic nature of geopolymercomposites has gone unnoticed for a long time. Pioneer studies on the topic were published in 2017-2018 [32], [33] and followed by few further publications in the years 2022-2023 [34]- [39]. In these studies, only three research groups [33]- [36], [39] quantified the Moisture Buffering Value as defined in the NORDTEST protocol, and they all observed MBV higher than 4 g/m2%RH, which is twice higher than the threshold for classifying materials as excellent for moisture buffering applications [30].…”
