Molecular Associations in Alcohol−Methyl Methacrylate Mixtures

Abstract: Molecular association between alcohols (1-propanol, 1-butanol, sec-butanol, tert-butanol, 1-pentanol, 1-heptanol, 1-octanol, and 1-decanol) with methyl methacrylate has been studied in n-heptane, CCl4, and benzene at 298 K using FTIR spectroscopic and dielectric methods. The result obtained from both methods indicates only the existence of most likely 1:1 complex formation between the alcohol and the methyl methacrylate in these systems. The alkyl chain length of alcohol and the solvent used plays a significan… Show more

“…Marco et al have obtained an equation of the general type of eq , that is eq , for 1:1 complexation in the gas phase, an equation is known for complexation in 1,1,1-trichloroethane, and Abraham and Berthelot have used literature data to obtain coefficients in eq for the solvents carbon disulfide, cyclohexane, and 1,2-dichloroethane and we have obtained coefficients for a number of solvents for which equilibrium constants were available as follows: perfluorohexane, hexane or heptane, , benzene, , benzonitrile, chlorobenzene, ,, bromobenzene, , and an updated equation for 1,1,1-trichloroethane. , The coefficients in eq are given in Table . log nobreak.25em K = c + m normalα normalH 2 · normalβ normalH 2 …”

“…Because n -heptane is one of the main alkane compounds found in petroleum, exploiting its phase diagram under pressure and temperature would also help in understanding the formation and stability of petroleum through long geological evolution. In addition, n -heptane has various applications in industry, such as use as a solvent, 26 extracting agent, 7 and reaction medium. 8,9 However, there are only a few studies that have been conducted at high temperature and high pressure.…”
