Molecular characterization and expression patterns of insulin-like growth factor-binding protein genes in postnatal Nanjiang brown goats

et al.

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins (IGFBPs) play a key role in modulating insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), and are considered candidate genes for growth traits in livestock. In this study, we identified the complete coding sequences of IGFBP-1 to -6 in the Nanjiang brown goat, and assessed gene tissue expression patterns by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Expression of mRNA for the six gene targets was detectable in liver, heart, and longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle. Expression level… Show more

“…The Bos taurus was closely related to Bubalus bubalis, whereas Capra hircus and Ovis aries shared higher sequence similarities. Our results are also supported by the study performed in Capra hircus, where Ovis aries and Capra hircus were closely related evolutionary, whereas Bos taurus was distantly related [35].…”

“…Eight SNPs have been detected in exon 2 of IGFBP-3 gene, 6 of them produce nonsynonymous protein coding or non-synonymous mutation (Sharma et al 2014) which can lead to a significant metabolic abnormality that is desirable or not desirable (Veneroni-Gouveia et al 2015;de Camargo et al 2015). IGFBP-3 gene expression was higher in the liver and longisimus dorsi muscles, thus contributing to the development of these organs (Zhang et al 2015), increased ADG from birth to weaning and weaning weight (Rasouli et al 2016), but there is not enough evidence to suggest that SNPs are associated with milk production (Zhou et al 2016).…”

“…IGFBPs, a family of six or more related proteins that bind IGF with high affinity, could sequester IGF to decrease protein synthesis and inhibit muscle cell differentiation. The affinity of IGFBP6 towards IGF2 surpasses that of other IGFBPs, and the expression level of IGFBP6 mRNA is highest in muscle tissue [41]. Additionally, it could enhance the muscle differentiation process by triggering predominantly the MAPK pathway in the absence of IGF2 [42].…”
