Organic solar (photovoltaic) cells are third‐generation photovoltaic cells. In particular, dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on dye photosensitizers adsorbed on oxide semiconductor electrodes (eg, TiO
2
, ZnO, or NiO) have received considerable attention for their interesting construction and operational principles, high power conversion efficiency, and low cost of production. To improve the photovoltaic performances of DSSCs, it is essential to create efficient dye photosensitizers. Therefore, many kinds of ruthenium (Ru) complex dyes and organic dyes have been designed and developed. Consequently, DSSCs have achieved a solar energy‐to‐electricity conversion yield (η) of up to 11%.
