Molecular genetic study on GATA5 gene promoter in acute myocardial infarction

Abstract: Background Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a severe type of coronary artery disease, caused by coronary occlusion and followed by cardiac ischaemia. GATA binding protein 5 (GATA5) is an important member of GATA family and plays an important role in vascular inflammation, endothelial function, oxidative stress and cell metabolism. Previous studies have shown that the DNA sequence variants (DSVs) in GATA4 and GATA6 promoter can increase susceptibility to AMI. In this study, we explored the relationship betw… Show more

“…GATA5 is one of the members of the GATA-binding protein family (GATA1-6) consisting of transcription factors that bind to the DNA consensus sequence GATA [ 13 ]. GATA5 is involved in the morphogenesis of organs derived from the mesoderm or endoderm, including the lungs, gut, heart and liver [ 39 ]. Furthermore, GATA5 is associated with malignant transformation in several types of human cancers [ 14 , 40 , 41 ].…”

“…However, several genes have been reported to be involved in the pathogenesis of AMI. DNA sequence variants in GATA binding protein 5 promoter can increase susceptibility to AMI [ 4 ]. Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 6 (PCSK6) play a key role in cardiac remodeling after acute myocardial infarction [ 5 ].…”
