Molecularly imprinted polymers for the selective determination of trace bisphenol A in river water by electrochemiluminescence

Abstract: The detection of bisphenol A (BPA) is very important for public health and environmental monitoring. In this work, BPA was found to be able to significantly quench the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of the Ru(bpy) 3 2+ /2-(dibutylamino)ethanol (DBAE) system. Molecularly imprinted polymer was synthesized as solid-phase extraction sorbents, which were used for the selective extraction and purification of BPA. Under optimal conditions, the inhibited ECL intensity versus the logarithm of the concentration of BPA w… Show more

“…This high affinity is appropriate to separate a specific molecule or a family of molecules from environmental samples. Molecularly imprinted polymers have been used as SPE sorbents for the isolation of pharmaceuticals, bisphenol‐A, phenolic compounds, or ionic liquids from environmental water samples. As well as the high affinity and selectivity of MIPs, they have shown other advantages such as their reproducibilities as well as their great stabilities to different pH values, temperatures, and organic solvents .…”

“…However, the maximum DI ECL is achieved at pH 8.0 (Fig. 3C), which may be attributed to the comprehensive effect of pH value on RuðbpyÞ 2þ 3 consumption [40], NeC dots deprotonation [41] and BPA dissociation [16]. In addition, the system become growing unstable when pH value exceeds 8.0.…”

“…During the past two years, electrochemical techniques based on various modified electrodes [10e15] have been extensively fabricated to eliminate the potential disadvantages. However, the reproducibility and selectivity of electrochemical sensors are always restricted due to high overpotential of BPA oxidation at electrode surface [16]. Therefore, it is still an urgent need to develop novel method for determination of BPA with simple operation, high sensitivity, excellent reproducibility and good selectivity.…”
