Monitoring of toxic chemical in the basin of Maringá stream

Abstract: ABSTRACT. This study aimed to track the spatial and temporal variations of toxic chemical compounds, such as the metals Al, Cd, Pb, Cu, Cr, Mn, Zn and the pesticide glyphosate, in Maringá stream and in a stretch of Pirapó river. The results pointed out that, in the case of metals, one of the possible sources of these elements is associated to agricultural activities. For glyphosate, were not found concentrations above those established by the Brazilian Water Quality Legislation (CONAMA 357/2005). Concerning th… Show more

“…As impurezas acumuladas no percurso d'agua tanto de formas naturais ou antropogênicas acabam alterando suas características e, por consequência, a sua qualidade. É de grande relevância o entendimento dos processos que nelas ocorrem, para a melhor utilização de seu conhecimento, aplicando-a na gestão da qualidade das águas ao que tange os usos múltiplos da água (Freire et al, 2012).…”

“…Other authors, in evaluating water quality in watersheds found Pb concentrations above the maximum allowed by Resolution No. 357/2005 of CONAMA, as Gonçalves et al (2015), and Santos Bonfim Jesus (2014), Ramalho et al (2000), Freire et al (2012). All attributed the results to the flow of soil by the action of rain to rivers and it may be from various sources, including pesticides and fertilizers for agricultural use.…”

“…In the state of Paraná (Brazil), traditionally characterized by varied agricultural activities, the monitoring of toxic chemical compounds (e.g., metals) has indicated that one of the possible sources of these substances can be the use of pesticides or even fertilizers that contain these substances, the presence of which are later reflected in nearby sources of water (Freire, Schneider, Hernandes de Freitas, Bonifácio, & Granhen Tavares, 2012). More specifically, in the municipality of Faxinal (PR-Brazil), due to the diversity of agricultural crops, the surface and groundwater from the São Pedro river basin may be exposed to heavy discharges of pollutants of anthropogenic origin, namely pesticides.…”
