Monoclinic LaBO2MoO4:Nd3+- a new SE- and (χ(2)+χ(3))-active crystal for multifunctional lasers

Abstract: Abstract:Nd 3+ -doped LaBO 2 MoO 4 with noncentrosymmetric monoclinic structure is presented as a new laser crystal. By Xe-flashlamp pumping at 300 K its pulsed stimulated emission (SE) at two wavelengths of the 4 F 3/2 → 4 I 11/2 generation channel was excited. A tentative identification of the observed SE transitions and measurements of some spectroscopic characteristics are given. The occurrence of a structural phase transition with a large temperature hysteresis was proved by means of thermal analysis. Des… Show more

“…This is because CsLa(WO 4 ) 2 (P4 2 /nmc) and CsNd(WO 4 ) 2 (P2 1 /m) have different structures [9,17], which prevent the Nd 3 þ incorporation into the crystal lattice. A low value of K was previously observed in Nd 3 þ :LaBMoO 6 (K¼0.54) [15,16], Nd 3 þ :Sr 2 La 2/3 (VO 4 ) 2 (K¼0.52) [18] and Nd 3 þ :LaBO 3 (K¼0.34) [19]. So the evolution of Nd 3 þ would inevitably have a negative effect on uniformity and reproducibility of optical and laser properties of the crystal, and this should be considered for further research and applications.…”

“…Three groups of emission bands at 850-925, 1030-1100, and 1300-1400 nm were observed, which can be attributed to the 4 F 3/2 / 4 I 9/2,11/2,13/2 transitions, respectively. 52 The strongest emission is located at 1067 nm. The excitation spectrum (Fig.…”

“…10, 10 groups of emission bands were observed, which can be attributed to the 4 I 9/2 / 2S+1 L J 0 transitions of Nd 3+ activator ions in d-Bi 1Àx Nd x B 3 O 6 . 31,52 The emission spectrum of the d-Bi 0.875 Nd 0.125 B 3 O 6 sample is shown in Fig. 11b with an excitation wavelength of 748 nm.…”

“…These results were corroborated by Zhao et al (2009), who, however, attributed this crystal structure to a high-temperature modification of LaBO 2 MoO 4 . The occurrence of a structural phase transition of LaBO 2 MoO 4 was reported by Becker et al (2008). Zhao et al (2008) also presented the crystal structure of the related cerium compound, CeBO 2 MoO 4 , with space group P2 1 /c and lattice constants a = 10.2404 (15) Å. b = 4.1495 (4) Å, c = 11.9286 (14) Å, β = 116.100 (9)°, and thus showed, that the presumed isomorphism of the lanthanum and the cerium compound is not correct.…”
