“…National and transnational agribusiness quickly accumulated large tracts of land, forming a new agrarian landscape in the territory. The effects of this transformation are witnessed in the changing ratio of palm oil plantations to subsistence crops (Silva, 2015), a rapid urbanization of surrounding areas and the ‘proletarianization’ or depeasantization of family farmers (Nahum & Malcher, 2014).
