Morphophysiological Analysis of Passion Fruit Plants From Different Propagation Methods and Planting Spacing

Abstract: -The passion fruit (Passiflora cincinnata Mast.) is a perennial and drought resistant species that represents a new alternative crop for small farmers in rainfed conditions. This study aimed to evaluate the vegetative and physiological development of passion fruit plants derived from two propagation methods and grown at varied planting spacing. The experiment was conducted from January to June of 2012, in the Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia (State University from Southwestern Bahia), in Brazil. It w… Show more

“…Ratio values were between 1.67 and 2.64, close to values obtained by Santos et al (2016) for fruits of the same species at different maturity stages, presenting Ratio values of 2.01 (almost ripe), 1.94 (ripe) and 2.11 (senescent). D 'Abadia et al (2020) obtained Ratio values between 2.2 and 2.7 for fruits of the parental population aged 60 days or more from anthesis.…”

“…In 2016, Embrapa launched the BRS Sertão Forte (BRS SF) (Embrapa 2020), a hybrid cultivar resulting from the crossing of two populations independently obtained, selected for fruit quality and yield (ARAÚJO et al, 2019). The cultivar met the wishes of small farmers for cultivation under rainfed conditions, considering the tolerance of the species to water stress (SANTOS et al, 2016). This cultivar was developed for semiarid and Cerrado conditions.…”

“…Plant propagation through cutting has been successful in several commercial and wild passion fruit species (Passiflora spp.) with different purposes, such as forming uniform orchards, mitigating pathogen symptoms in the short term (Lima et al 2019), promoting crop precocity (Junqueira et al 2006;Santos et al 2016) and fixing through cloning of progenies (from different plants) traits of interest for genetic improvement (e.g., greater fruit and juice yields, more attractive ornamental features).…”

“…Yellow passion fruit is traditionally grown through seeds; however, in order to minimize phytosanitary problems caused by soil pathogens, many researchers have studied the grafting of commercial species using rootstocks of wild species resistant to soil pathogens, mainly of the genus Fusarium (SANTOS et al, 2016;SCHMILDT et al, 2018), P. edulis/P. gibertii (CAVICHIOLI et al, 2011); P. edulis / P. mucronate (ALEXANDRE et al, 2013); P. edulis/P.…”
