“…In addition, the comparison of asthma with COPD patients confirmed the greater frailty of the latter, as they were characterized by both higher CCI and increased mortality rate. Such findings are consistent with other studies [ 40 , 41 ], which underlines the increased risks of negative outcomes in patients with COPD and COVID-19. Indeed, these patients received NIV more often, but invasive mechanical ventilation less frequently.…”

“…Similar to our report, COVID-19 patients aged older than 60 years with underlying CVD can aggravate symptoms and result in death outcomes [26,27]. Although, in our study, there was no statistically significant relationship between the comorbid underlying disease with death outcome in COVID-9 patients with CVD, all mentioned diseases, separately, were reported as a risk factor to worsen the condition and lead to death in these patients [28][29][30][31][32]. Among demographical and clinical characteristics, male gender, elderly age, and fever are associated with a greater risk of development of acute respiratory syndrome, severe condition, and death [31,33].…”

“…Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is thought to increase the severity and mortality of COVID‐19 pneumonia (Lippi & Henry, 2020 ; Wu et al, 2020 ). In the N3C database, the risk of death was two times higher in those with COPD (Meza et al, 2021 ). Early in the pandemic, it was reported that hypertension was very common comorbidity with COVID‐19 (Guan et al, 2020 ).…”
