PurposeIn the COVID-19 era, where blended learning is gaining popularity, research-informed teaching could be one of the alternatives or options to assess students' progress in Higher Education institutions. In the past, educators have assessed students' research skills gained from research-informed teaching through coursework components or assignments. However, whether the assignments can be converted into peer-reviewed output acceptable in a reputable journal or conference has hardly been investigated. This study explores how research-informed teaching has been rolled out in undergraduate/postgraduate BIM related modules/programmes in the School of the Built Environment, Oxford Brookes University and which has culminated in high quality published outputs.Design/methodology/approachThe method used is purely qualitative in-depth interviews, where students who have published were tracked and invited to share their experiences. In total, nine former students of the 12 invited, participated in the interviews. Inductive content analysis, a suitable qualitative data analysis technique was used in analysing the feedback from the interviews.FindingsThe main finding is that research-informed teaching can be done in a technical and complex BIM discipline and students' coursework components or assignments can further be converted into published outputs.Research limitations/implicationsThe main limitation of this study was that the sample was small. That notwithstanding, it has provided valuable insights into the understanding of student's ability to undertake research while studying and experiences of how educators can deliver research-informed teaching to students in Higher Education institutions.Originality/valueThe study adds to the existing body of literature about undergraduate and postgraduate research-informed teaching and goes further to provide strong evidence through published outputs thereby confirming that students at both levels can indeed conduct and publish peer-reviewed research articles while undertaking their studies.

The research deals with the cultural heritage of the old city of Mosul and the importance of conserving it. It aims to measure the extent of the changes in the social and physical structure due to the war. it comes from a doctoral dissertation on the concept of conservation. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to collecting and analyzing information from the site visit, conducting a field survey represented by personal interviews with families, and conducting a questionnaire prepared for this purpose. In addition to documenting a heritage house, they were elected according to specific conditions and collected data on the physical structure. The research concluded by diagnosing many criteria related to the social structure and measuring the extent of the changes that occurred in it, in addition to discussing the impact of changes in the social structure, extracting their repercussions on the physical structure, and measuring the extent of the changes in the architectural characteristics that occurred in the heritage houses. It was concluded that the change in the social structure due to wars and the lack of awareness of methods of architectural preservation of cultural heritage leads to changes in the physical structure of residential homes, which in turn is reflected in the city's cultural identity.

The article outlines the main directions of the Action Plan (rational, inclusive, green, efficient, nonlinear reproduction, increasing economic productivity, stimulating high levels of investment, transforming the economy into carbon-free, architecture into green, bioclimatic and safe) to revive Ukrainian settlements based on current analysis. situation in Ukraine according to available official data of losses from the impact of hostilities. It is argued that some places cannot be rebuilt in the way they existed, new roads, bridges and railways are under reconstruction, investment losses, labor outflows and defense spending add to the negative impact of hostilities on GDP. The current world experience in rebuilding cities affected by military conflicts (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, etc.) is analyzed. Accordingly, the research developed conceptual principles for the reconstruction of Ukrainian cities (villages, settlements) destroyed by hostilities, namely presented the necessary tasks (community involvement, setting priorities, respecting local traditions, healing the emotional state of residents for memories of horrific events), tools for their solution (platform for interconnection and exchange of projects with theoretical research and practical actions, system of organizational and economic measures of the nonlinear action plan for priority and further assistance to cities, districts, villages and their components, protection and reproduction of cultural heritage, attractive atmosphere of places and their further promotion), ways and results. It is argued that the urban planning of the country should be based on the principles of urban typology, population needs, priorities, innovation inclusiveness, emotional and spiritual healing, ambience, atmosphere, restoration of protected areas. The essence of each of the principles of building a new model of the country on the basis of sustainability, innovation, inclusiveness and creativity is revealed.
