Although not always framed within motivational theory (Licht, 2010), contemporary research provides evidence for the relevance of self-direction and stimulation (Noseleit, 2010; Shepherd and Patzelt, 2018), the search for autonomy (Douglas, 2013) and variety (Astebro and Thompson, 2007) as key entrepreneurial determinants.
