“…These authors also found a 1.46-fold increase in the risk of PDR as MPV levels increased. On the other hand, Citirik et al 11 showed that MPV values did not change with DR stage, but there was a significant difference between the mean MPV values of diabetic patients and healthy subjects. In this study, we found a marked increase in MPV values in diabetic patients over healthy subjects; the increase in MPV values was more evident, particularly in patients with PDR.…”

“…Diabetic patients have increased MPV values compared with healthy individuals; at the same time, the risk of retinopathy development increases with higher MPV values in diabetic patients. 11,12 The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relation of the platelet indices MPV, PCT, PLT, and PDW of diabetic and control groups and to associate these indices with the stages of DR and DME. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to describe the relation between DME and platelet indices.…”

“…Aggregation was initiated by the addition of ADP solution (final concentration, 20 μM), thrombin (0.1 U/mL) and arachidonic acid (AA: 900 μM) in vivo (pre-treated with 400 mg/kg/d metformin, 50 μg/kg/d mtDNA or control buffer for 7 d) and in vitro (pre-incubated with 1 mM metformin, 40 ng/μL or control buffer for 6 h at 37 °C), and recorded for 5 min. In selected experiments platelets were pre-incubated for 0.5 h at 37 °C with neutralizing antibodies against DC-SIGN (120507; R&D Systems, USA, 25 μg/mL)4133495051.…”

“…Elevated MPV is an indicator of larger, more reactive platelets resulting from an increased platelet turnover. Recent studies revealed that MPV levels were positively correlated with platelet activation, and high MPV represented a risk factor for overall cardiovascular mortality [36-37]. In addition, the high MPV was also related to poor prognosis in non-cardiovascular disease critically ill patients [38].…”
